Umami Bee is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the Black human experience through a spiritual and elemental lens. Blending natural materials — most notably coffee — with acrylic and mixed media, Bee transforms everyday elements into textured narratives that honor ancestry, identity, and the unseen forces that shape us.
Rooted in intuition and ritual, Bee's work moves between the earthly and the ethereal. Figures often emerge as extensions of nature — trees, roots, sunlight, and wind — symbolizing memory, healing, and transformation. The Afro appears as a recurring motif and a declaration of freedom, power, and presence: a reminder that Blackness is expansive, expressive, and sacred.
Expanding beyond the canvas, Bee creates public murals and visual storytelling rooted in community, healing, and cultural pride — bringing art and spirit into shared environments. Bee's multidisciplinary approach is also informed by film and narrative work, including film and music.
